The Toffees are eighth in the table and just three points behind sixth, while Man City will now have more than one eye in next week’s Champions League final.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team has struggled for consistency during a frustrating 2020-21, but that has also been the case for each of the teams surrounding them at the table.

Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, secured with a goal from Richarlison, means Everton can still technically qualify for the Europa League.

However, they are within three points of West Ham United, sixth place, and have significantly worse goal difference, so seventh place, and a place in the opening of the Europa Conference League, is the most realistic goal.

For that to be achieved, Everton will almost certainly have to beat Man City, as Arsenal, one point worse, are at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, as they hope Tottenham Hotspur cannot beat Leicester City.

Winning at the Etihad Stadium is no easy feat, of course, especially considering that Everton has not won consecutive league games since the beginning of March.

Ancelotti’s men have won just three of their last 11 games since then, though his away form provides hope for a surprise this weekend, losing just one of his last 14 away from Goodison Park.

However, Everton has lost their last six Premier League matches against Man City, only losing more consecutively in the competition against Manchester United (nine between 1999-2004).

City doesn’t have much to play for in their final league game of another impressive campaign, however, having clinched the third title in four seasons under Pep Guardiola with three matches to spare.

The Citizens’ results over the past five weeks certainly suggest they have stopped stepping on the gas, losing half of their last six league games, to Leeds United, Chelsea, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The most recent of those defeats at Amex Stadium left Guardiola a bit concerned, with 10 of his men pulling a two-goal lead to lose 3-2.

Guardiola accepted full-time that a big improvement is needed if City are to beat local rivals, Chelsea, in next week’s Champions League final, this being their last chance to get it right before that. great game Manchester City vs Everton

City has lost their last league game in just one of the past 12 seasons, and the lone loss in that streak came at home to Norwich City in 2012-13.
